The US Dollar continued to strenghten yesterday as oil prices dropped off. The US is the largest consumer of the black stuff and as it’s priced in Dollars if the oil price drops the Dollar strenghtens.
However, the USD has dropped against the single currency as they are announcing a 1 year refi rate with an interest rate offer of 1%.

Sterling has started the poorly as it has lost a cent against both the US dollar and the Euro and over two cents against the New Zealand Dollar. This is mainly due to the outlook for unemployment being as bleak as it was back in the 1980’s.
Today also sees the start of the bank charges legal case which is likely to put pressure on the banks and could lead to Sterling facing further losses today.

The pound has been sitting at a new high this year against a number of currencies in particular the pound and the dollar and it looks like I will be able to purchase much more on my holidays this year compared to other years. The pound has been moving so quickly recently that it is important if you are moving large sums you keep in touch with you currency broker to ensure you get the best deal a saving of 2% in a day is not uncommon. Happy buying

Bad news for any Australians looking to follow the Baggy Greens to England for this Summer’s ashes series as Sterling hit a 6 week high against the Aussie Dollar yesterday meaning each and every beer they drink will be that little bit more expensive.
Continued positive data releases in the UK has seen Sterling perform well against most of the major currencies over the last few weeks and there is every sign that this may continue through the Summer months.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the performances of Pietersen, Flintoff, Anderson and the other English cricketers carry on in a similar fashion!!!
Happy Wednesday,
Eugene!!
